Lagos State Ministry of Youths and Social Development has said jurisdiction will not stop investigation into Queens College alleged sexual assault on a student.
The Commissioner, Mrs Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf, told journalists on Thursday that since College was located in the state, the school cannot stop it from investigating the matter.
She said: “Although Queens College is a federal school, it is located in the state. The state has encountered uncooperative attitude of the school authorities and call for the temporary removal of those concerned in the issue, pending the outcome of the investigation.
“We, therefore, implore the Federal Ministry of Education to direct officials of the school to cooperate with state’s social workers in the best interest of the children. The state will not stand by and watch, but will always act in accordance with the Child Rights Act.”
Meanwhile, the embattled teacher, Mr. Olaseni Osifala, yesterday regained freedom after 3 days in custody of the Police Headquarters, Ikeja.
His release reportedly follows the intervention of a former Lagos State Deputy Governor, who was contacted by the school management.
The school’s principal, Lami Amodu and staff, are backing Olaseni, insisting that the allegation was an attempt to destroy the hard-earned reputation of Queens College.
The Minister of State for Education, Professor Anthony Anwukah, earlier in the week constituted a panel to investigate the allegation.
