Kim Jong-un's military has launched a missile from a submarine in waters east of the Korean peninsula.
It was unclear if the rocket – launced at about 2.30am British time – is a test or an attempted attack.
The shock launch – which appears to be completely unexpected – comes after Kim branded new sanctions against his trigger-happy regime as a "declaration of war".
