Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has refused to rule out landing compatriot Paul Pogba at Santiago Bernabeu, insisting Los Blancos have the desire to sign players of his quality.
Real Madrid are one of the teams strongly linked with the Juventus midfielder whose reported medical with Manchester United was called off by his agent Mino Riola and while Zidane stressed Pogba remains contracted to the Old Lady, he acknowledged the club’s desire to sign players of his calibre.
World Cup winner
While responding to more questions about the Juventus man, the 1998 World Cup winner admitted that ‘Real Madrid always want the best.’
“Is there a chance? I don’t know, we’re here working. Anything can happen until August 31. He’s not a Madrid player yet. We can’t talk about what might happen. I always say the same to this question. This isn’t the time to talk about it.
“Everyone is interested in Pogba. He’s a great player and when you’re Madrid you always want the best. But you have to respect some things. He’s a Juve player and today I can’t say anything.
Improve
“It’s hard for Madrid to improve their squad, we’ve always had the best. We’ve won with this squad. There are good players, and things can always be improved, and always will be at this club. There are always players who can improve the team.” Zidane told AS.
Pogba left Old Trafford on a free transfer in 2012 but could be set to return this summer in a potentially world-record transfer, with negotiations over a deal understood to have begun earlier this month.
