Poor communication often derail most important relationships in a person's life. The ability to listen is the best tool you can bring to aid reconciliation efforts. This checklist can help.
1.Remember that love is a verb.
Choose to love your spouse for better or for worse! "Unconditional love based on commitment is the key".
2.Communicate even if it results in an argument.
Choose a private place, a time when you won't be interrupted and talk about it.
3.Outlaw any name calling, references to past history, and being petty during argument.
Stick to the issue at hand. "Deal with the koko, the real issue".
4.Listen to your spouse attentively without interruption.
Pay attention to the emotions that lie behind the words and body language. Do not try to change those feelings or offer solutions; just validate them by listening."Be a very good listener, learn how to listen!".
5.Don't go to bed angry at each other.
Call off the anger, calm down before bedtime. Most things look better in the morning. "Do not allow the sun go down on your anger!".
6.Take action.
Do something every day that shows your love for your spouse even if you don't feel love. Love has a funny way of creeping back into the picture. "You grow in love and not fall in love, if you fall, you fall out love!".
7.Remember that the bond of love grows even stronger after you've survived difficult times.
"Remember, expressed misunderstanding helps strengthen a relationship depending on how you handle it!".
