Abuja - The Lagos State Government (LASG) has revealed that it currently has four infants born to schoolgirls who had been impregnated by their fathers in its custody, Punch reports.
Alaba Fadairo, Director of Child Development at the Lagos Ministry of Women Affairs, has reported that the decision was taken in order to allow the girls space and time to grow and decide whether they would like to keep their babies or not.
“Anybody can sexually abuse you. Your father, his friends, drivers, teachers can abuse you. I know there are also good fathers. I am only trying to caution our children. I have four children who were impregnated by their fathers and they have put to bed. We have kept the babies apart until the girls are old enough to decide if they want to keep their babies or not. One fundamental thing we have discovered is that people close to children constitute a major percentage of those who abuse children,’’ she said.
In addition, Fadairo has revealed some shocking statistics, stating that the Ministry receives an average of six new cases of child abuse every week.
Childcare experts have since urged parents to be cautious when it comes to their children and their interactions with other people, particularly during the school holidays.
